The spirit of the community started with developer Bill Connelly adding in the ‘extras’ – like buried hydro lines – at a time when other builders wouldn’t. Connelly built most of the early part of Glen Cairn in the mid 1960’s. Bungalows, split levels and 2 storey homes are all located on large lots and tree-lined mature yards. With a public pool, library, tennis courts as well as the Jack Charron Arena, Glen Cairn is a wonderful community in which to raise your children, or to downsize upon retirement.
A.Y. Jackson Secondary School is located in Glen Cairn, and is the only public high school on the south side of the 417.
Glen Cairn features The Hazeldean Mall which is located at the corner of Eagleson & Hazeldean Roads. The mall includes a grocery store, drug store, lots of restaurants, a coffee shop, dentist office and many more.
Glen Cairn Public School, John Young and St. Martin De Porres are the 3 elementary schools in Glen Cairn. Also located in Glen Cairn are quite a few outdoor rinks, parks and bike paths.
